Elektrika : Journal of Electrical Engineering , 2007,
Abstract: Sodium sulfur battery is an advanced secondary battery that is relatively new in power system applications. This paper presents the modeling and simulation of sodium sulfur battery used in power system applications such as for battery energy storage system and power quality custom devices. Several electrical battery models are reviewed and important factors to be considered in modeling the battery such as internal resistance, temperature effect, electromotive force and depth of discharge are discussed. Based on the available empirical data, the voltage-current behavior and characteristics of NAS battery are modeled in PSCAD/EMTDC software tool. The model is then used in simulation studies of power system applications utilizing NAS batteries.

Advances in Infectious Diseases (AID) , 2020, DOI: 10.4236/aid.2020.105017
Abstract: Background: Despite great efforts by the government to control malaria in Sudan, the disease is the most significant human disease and was widespread in North Kordofan State. Morbidity and mortality of the disease are increasing in the State. Usually, the disease reached its peak after rainy season. This study aims to estimate the role of climate factors on malaria transmission dynamic by modeling the relationship between malaria cases and climatic variables, such as rainfall, relative humidity, and temperature, in Kordofan State. Methods: We used Pearson correlation coefficient and an ordinary least square method to assess this relationship. Results: The results show that there are statistically significant associations between malaria cases and rainfall, relative humidity, and minimum temperature (P-value < 0.001). The regression analysis results suggest that the appropriate model for predicting malaria incidence includes malaria cases lagged by one month, maximum temperature, and minimum temperature. This model explained 72% of the variance in monthly malaria incidence. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that climatic factors have potential use for malaria prediction in the State.

Abstract: Background: Sudan has often faced outbreaks of malaria, the life-threatening waterborne disease. In 2019, the country experienced an outbreak of six different infectious diseases, i.e., cholera, chikungunya, dengue fever, diphtheria, malaria, and Rift Valley fever. Objectives: The aim of this study was to perform an epidemiological descriptive analysis of data of these disease outbreaks to determine the spatial and temporal patterns of outbreaks and to estimate the magnitude of the diseases. Methods: The data consisted of the number of cases and deaths due to disease outbreaks of cholera, chikungunya, dengue fever, diphtheria, malaria, and Rift Valley fever. We analyzed the reports of an investigation conducted by the World Health Organization and the Federal Ministry of Health, Sudan. Descriptive statistics and case fatality rate (CFR) were used in this study. Results: The frequency of disease occurrence was as follows: cholera (344 cases), chikungunya (308 cases), dengue fever (4236 cases), diphtheria (105 cases), malaria (5,188,135 cases) and River Valley fever (567 cases). The CFRs for cholera, chikungunya, are diphtheria were 4.3%, 2.05%, and 9.5%, respectively. The mortality rate of malaria was 0.0013. The states most affected by outbreaks of these diseases in Sudan were the western states. Women were at a higher risk for all diseases, except River Valley fever. Conclusions: This study highlights the patterns of the outbreak of these diseases in Sudan and provides a basis for future scientific research.

Abstract: Teaching information security faces a lot of problems because, it has many abstract concepts which are difficult to understand and imagine in the traditional methods of teaching. In this paper, we have designed a proposed system based on desktop virtual reality to promote the basic concepts of computer security using animated visualization 3D objects. That helps students to understand and simulate. The study was conducted to observe the effectiveness of the proposed system. The students were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Computer security concepts were taught via the proposed system in the experimental, and via the traditional lecture method in the control group. The statistical analysis of the students’ results showed that the experimental group had a significantly greater increase in academic’s achievement than the control group. It was conducted that the system had been significantly beneficial on student’s learning.

Marwa Nabil, Hussien A. Motaweh
Advances in Nanoparticles (ANP) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/anp.2016.54021
Abstract:
A direct synthesis method is introduced to prepare nano-porous silicon-nickel nanocomposite (nPS/Ni) powder for thermal isolation applications. In this paper, we study the thermal stability of nanocomposites consisting of nanoparticles metal incorporated into the pores of a porous silicon by a very simple method. The nickel element is chemically deposited whereas the nanoparticles are precipitated on the pore surfaces. The (nPS) and (nPS/Ni) nano-materials are thermally measured under nitrogen at temperatures of 40 - 1000, noticeable, demonstrating better thermal stability of (nPS/Ni) until 900 than in the case of (nPS) at 600. Then, the improving of the thermal stability of the nPS powder is facilitated using it in many applications of the thermal insulation process.

Journal of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering (MSCE) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/msce.2019.73004
Abstract: The purpose of the present research is the different morphologies production of crystalline and amorphous-silica powder. It’s a basic material for many pharmaceutical and environmental applications as well. And, it’s produced using the combination of the alkali chemical etching process and the ultra-sonication technique. The critical preparation conditions are KOH concentration (weight %) and the sonication time (hour). The paper presents the chemical mechanism of the silica particle formation as well as the different morphology. The results show the formation of crystalline and amorphous-porous-silica particles in the micrometer range with the porous order network that has pore sizes range in micrometer too. This synthetic uses commercial silicon, which could be useful for large-scale production. Also, the nano-sphere and nano-cubic shapes of silica powder are formed starting by commercial silicon powder.

International Journal of Chemistry , 2012, DOI: 10.5539/ijc.v4n2p101
Abstract: The reaction kinetic of the glycerol acetylation with acetic acid catalyzed by sulfuric acid has been studied in the frame of continuous triacetin production. Glycerol, acetic acid and sulfuric acid catalyst were reacted in a batch reactor, in order to get reaction kinetics data. The mole ratio of catalyst to glycerol and temperature were studied during the experience. This study concluded that the selectivity of triacetin increased with increase in mole ratio of catalyst to glycerol. Increasing temperatures lead to increase selectivity of triacetin. It will decreased at the time of acetic acid has begun to evaporate. Triacetin synthesis is an exothermic reaction, a higher reaction temperature will cause in shifting the balance toward formation of reactants. This needs to be anticipated by taking one of the products so that the equilibrium shifting toward product formation.
